The GVL Pine Needle and Fuel Reduction Program will kick off May 31st. Hoping to be a yearly event running from Memorial Day, in conjunction with Chipper Weekend, through September, private parties, local organizations, businesses and agencies will pull together to remove combustible fuels from the Green Valley Lake community. May 20, 2008 - POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
A Community meeting is scheduled for May 23, 6 pm, at the Community Center to hear from several agencies and their programs for making our home sites fire safe. There will be a presentation on the Fire Hazard Abatement program (fire hazards include dry vegetation, dead and dying shrubs and trees, large accumulation of fine needles, and trees too close to chimneys) by the San Bernardino County Land Use Services Code Enforcement. Julie Hernandez, Supervisor, Fire Hazard Abatement, and Thomas Bradt, Inspector, Fire Hazard Abatement, will be present to provide details on the program and to answer questions. The meeting is co-sponsored by the Green Valley Lake Women’s Club, the Green Valley Lake Citizens for Disaster Preparedness, and the Green Valley Chapter of the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council. Additional agencies will be present to discuss the requirements for maintaining defensible space around homes, the Forest Care program for assistance with maintaining healthy trees on your property, and The Pine Needle Program.
“CHIPPER DAY WEEKEND” planned for May 31-June 1. The County Fire
Department will come to each property with the chipper beginning Monday, June 2.
Fire Fighter Scot Turknette and his Fire Crew will come to your properties and
chip your slash curbside. No pine needles . the chipper cannot handle the pine
needles. Just leave your brush, trees limb and other slash curbside. They can
chip tree limbs up to 12 inch diameter. Have the slash in place by 9 am Monday,
June 2. Scot and his crew will do the rest. Look for more announcements as
the time approaches. Spread the word.

A meeting took place today between Randy and Pat Rozatti of the GVLDRF, Margaret Johnson of WCGVL, Cheryl Nagy of Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and Councilman Hansberger. Subjects relevant to issues of concern to GVL residents and property owners were discussed at length during the 2 hour meeting. The Councilman pledged continued support of the community and to address issues including but not limited to, evaluation of set backs on new construction on a case by case basis, community economic recovery, and CSA 79.
